Baltimore, MD – Today, four members of the Maryland House of Delegates announced their support of Sean D. Burns for Delegate (District 46). House of Delegates Democratic Caucus Chairman Jazz Lewis, as well as Delegates Tony Bridges, Alonzo Washington and Rachel Jones endorsed Burns and praised his long service to Maryland and the City of Baltimore.
“Sean Burns will hit the ground running on day one in the House of Delegates,” said Delegate Jazz Lewis (D-District 24, Prince George’s County), Chairman of the Maryland House of Delegates’ Democratic Caucus. Lewis cited Burns’ impressive career of public service and the massive federal resources Burns has successfully steered to the state, as key to his endorsement. “I am happy to endorse Sean for the Maryland House of Delegates – District 46. Without a doubt, Sean has the skill set and experience necessary to get critical legislation passed for District 46 residents, something I appreciate as Chairman of the Democratic Caucus of the House of Delegates.”
“I am thrilled to endorse Sean D. Burns for the Maryland House of Delegates – District 46,” said Delegate Tony Bridges (D-District 41, Baltimore City). “From serving as a congressional aide, to our shared tenure working in Governor O’Malley’s administration, I have witnessed Sean’s tireless advocacy,” he added. “Sean is uniquely qualified to serve in the House of Delegates. Without a doubt, he will be ready on day one to serve the citizens of District 46 and the State of Maryland.”
Delegate Alonzo T. Washington (D-District 22, Prince George’s County) also cited Burns’ extensive experience in state and local government. “Sean is not a newcomer to public service. Sean’s tenure as an aide to members of Congress and former Governor O’Malley, demonstrate his passion for getting results for all Marylanders.” Washington called Burns “a champion on the frontlines fighting for educational equity and HBCUs,” and praised Burns’ success in “securing billions of dollars for HBCUs, including Morgan State University, Coppin State University, Bowie State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.”
“I’ve known Sean for over a decade, and his commitment to public service has been unfailing,” said Delegate Rachel R. Jones (D-District 27B, Calvert and Prince George’s Counties). “Having spent many years in Baltimore City and having a deep love for it, I can think of no better person to serve the residents of District 46,” she added. “He will be a dedicated advocate and voice for Baltimoreans and for Marylanders and I’m thrilled to endorse my friend Sean for Delegate.”
“It is very gratifying to have the support of these four leaders, especially a member of the Democratic leadership team,” Burns said. “I am energized to by the prospect of joining them in the House of Delegates and working with them to make Baltimore, and our state, safer, greener, and more prosperous and equitable. I am honored to have their support.”
These endorsements are the latest in a growing number of elected officials who are jumping on the Burns Bandwagon. Congressmen Kweisi Mfume and Dutch Ruppersberger have endorsed Burns along with Baltimore City Council Members John T. Bullock and Antonio Glover. In addition, Burns has received numerous endorsements from community leaders, educators, small businesspeople, and clergy in the district.
